Learning about Colombia.

I have no idea what i'm doing. All i know about Cartagena is that that's where Joan Wilder and Jack T. Colton ended up in Romancing the Stone.

Except it wasn't. See, Colombia was too dangerous in the 80's for Hollywood to send actors and filming crews there. So instead, the Cartagena scenes were filmed in Vera Cruz, Mexico (I believe - i just googled it today). So, even the little impression i had of the city - it's out the window.

So to help me figure out my way over the next 6 days as I prepare for the outting, i got a travel guide. Better than nothing, though Cartagena only occupies 14 pages of the book. Better than nothing, I suppose. Though, I'll probably end up ordering something from Amazon with expedited shipping, just to have something else to review before getting on the plane.

(Since Romancing the Stone was pure fiction and not even filmed where they purported to be, this book is now all that I know of my impending travel.)

  1. That series of travel books, I particularly like. My Croatia book was frightfully helpful for my trip to the Balkins! Bonne chance!

  2. It's my first one, and I definetly like the candidness of it. I wasn't expecting the book to say, but I know no that "no quiero nada" will turn away prostitutes, pimps and drug dealers alike!
