I've lived in Florida for 5 or 6 years now, and have never gotten around to taking vacation here. I mean, I live here, so there's not much i can think to do that I couldn't do anyways. Usually, then, I use my vacation time to go home to Massachusetts, and see family and old friends.
Enter now.
I just went back to Mass a couple weeks ago for family reasons, and let me tell you - brutally cold. No need for that. So much so that my friend Danielle wants to come down here for a bit instead. So she's coming down, for enough days that I figured I should take some vacation time. And then, almost as soon as i requested my off days, it hit me - I really don't want to spend my valuable paid time off to sit around Florida. I mean, sure I could sit by the pool. Or go to Disney. Or Key West. Or South Beach. Or any other touristy thing to do in Florida, but in the end, it's all the same place.
First instinct was to go to the Bahamas. I mean, it's nice, safe, and would still mean I'd get a new stamp on my passport. But after looking at all the deals there, really, all the trip would be would be sitting by the pool, drinking a log, gambling perhaps, and floating around in the ocean. In otherwords, boring.
So i started looking where else Spirit Air flies (they have dirt cheap flights). And then I got to thinking. So i called Danielle. I think. The conversation may have taken place over text message, actually. But in the end, a new decision was made. Cartagena, Colombia, here we come!
