all walled in

Cartagena was a rich city. In that, it was the staging area for the spaniards to ship all of their looted gold back home. Word got out about that though, so it was frequently seiged, destroyed, blockaded, and looted. Over and over. For hundreds of years. They finally got sick of getting killed, maimed and destroyed, so they built over 6km of walls around the city, as well as building rock jettys all along the coast so that ships couldn't sail up to the front door. Complimenting all of that were an array of hundreds of cannons pointed out in every direction. And that stopped the pillaging.

The walls offer a great view out of the city.

The original cannons

Thank god for the coca cola company.
Theres a nice breeze from the ocean, but the wall radiates heat.
therefore water is encouraged and sold
